The most popular way of controlling ice is to throw down rock salt but this is very inefficient and messy. There are more advanced ice melters available now and you should take advantage of them to really keep your property nice and safe during icy months. Various granular ice melt pellets are available that you can spread down before ice accumulates or on top of the ice after it has already formed. Ice melt pellets have more advanced formulas than simple rock salt so they melt ice better and faster. There are even time-release pellets that work for up to 12 hours. It may be slightly more expensive than pellets but you get what you pay for.
